Breast reconstruction using the latissimus dorsi (LD) flap is a workhorse operation, often utilized in more complex cases such as patients with radiation damage. However, the traditional open method of harvesting the flap can result in a large scar of 15–45 cm [1]. Therefore, in cases where a skin paddle is not necessary, it may be beneficial for the surgeon to use a robotic-assisted method of harvesting the latissimus dorsi muscle flap, minimizing the incision length and hiding the scar in the axilla. As with other minimally invasive methods, there is significant promise of decreased pain and quicker recovery after robotic harvest of the latissimus dorsi compared to the open method [2].
