This systematic review aims to explore and evaluate innovations in virtual reality (VR) applied to electronic sports (esports). Despite the great potential of VR in this field, there are significant challenges, such as the high cost of devices and health issues associated with prolonged use. An exhaustive investigation was conducted using PICO and PRISMA methodologies to identify and select the most relevant studies on VR and eSports, resulting in the screening of 430 documents. The results highlight various innovative methodologies and technologies, such as the creation of immersive environments, advanced interfaces, and motion tracking systems. The reviewed studies show that the implementation of VR in eSports can significantly increase immersion and realism, enhancing player performance and spectator engagement. This will enable the development of advanced platforms and tools that take eSports to new heights of interaction and enjoyment. Thus, this systematic review provides a comprehensive overview of VR innovations in eSports, identifying effective methods and areas for future research and development, thereby improving the overall experience of electronic sports.
