This chapter considers why 0 to 9 folded in 1969 and what the magazine’s end might tell us about the changes that were occurring within the avant-garde communities at the turn of a new decade. Reflecting on some of Acconci’s retrospective comments regarding his and Mayer’s “parting of ways,” the conclusion questions the distinctions that he makes regarding autobiographical and impersonal modes of artmaking. These two “ways,” it is argued, are not as antithetical as Acconci proposes and, in fact, were more sympatico in 0 to 9 than he gives credit. Moreover, the conclusion notes how the confluence of autobiography and non-expressive systematic modes of working is evident in several contemporary artistic and writing practices that 0 to 9 both anticipated and influenced.

摘要
