In this chapter, controversial issues education is discussed with the aim to present a narrative-theory perspective and a fiction-based teaching approach to obviously normative issues and to consider such an approach in relation to some teaching approaches aiming to develop students’ reflective abilities. Observed fiction-based lessons in ethics show that the teaching gives the students opportunities to develop moral sensitivity, moral judgement, moral motivation and implementation, but the teaching could benefit from being more focused on actively developing these components. Here Kohlberg’s dilemma approach can provide inspiration, as well as Englund’s deliberative communication. What is considered controversial often depends on the context, and a controversial issue seems always to be an ethical issue, where the right interpretation is at stake. Through fiction, the sensitive nature of the issue may be mitigated, and perspectives far beyond those of the classroom may be present.

摘要
