The concept of Smart City in Bulgaria has been developing during the last several years. The practical advancements and projects related to the Smart City implementation into the real city environment have become more visible since the investments in digitalization in Bulgaria, e-governance development, and improvements in different areas of city life—public transport, public e-services, health, etc. Bulgaria has put much effort into administrating the process of implementation of the Smart City concept. Sofia is such an example of the development of strategic documents, which can help the process of Smart City development become more efficient and transparent for the citizens. The objective of this chapter is to give an overview of the development of a Smart city in Bulgaria, to present some good practices and projects of advancement as well as to be given some examples about the Smart cities Sofia and Burgas. The research methods used are literature overview and analyses, desk research, and expert interviews. The chapter is structured into three parts—introduction, Bulgarian Smart city examples on a national level, Sofia and Burgas smart cities research, and in a conclusion the analyses of trends are summarized.
