Salt Making Pottery in Prehistoric Japan: A Case Study from the Matsushima Coastal Area, Miyagi Prefecture
摘要
During the late Jomon period, two major centers of salt production emerged in Japan, each sustaining manufacturing activities for several periods. This chapter focuses on salt production in one of these regions, Matsushima Bay, exploring salt-making techniques through archaeological evidence, construction methods, and other perspectives. Additionally, the results of experimental analyses are discussed to deepen our understanding of Jomon salt production.
