The Briquetage de la Seille (Lorraine, Eastern France)
摘要
A multidisciplinary research project focused on the “Briquetage de la Seille,” a vast complex of salt production sites from the European Iron Age in Lorraine, was conducted from 2001 to 2017. Extensive geophysical surveys revealed the internal structure of salt workshops, which cover areas of up to several tens of hectares. Archaeo-environmental studies have demonstrated the significant impact of this proto-industrial activity on the natural environment. Field surveys also uncovered substantial evidence of Iron Age funerary features in close proximity to the salt production workshops. Analysis of individuals from associated cemeteries suggests they likely belonged to groups that controlled the salt-producing community.
