Modernist Conceptions and the Women’s New Institutions
摘要
The chapter discusses the innovative architectural approach reflected in institutions designed by women for women. It explores the way women architects integrated efficiency, rationality, and hygiene into the planning and design of the buildings and examines formal questions along with their underlying urban, social, gender, and cultural significance. A discussion follows regarding the use of the architectural project to promote the women’s organizations’ agenda. Architectural photography was used strategically in women’s magazines to emphasize women’s contribution to building the nation through domestic work.
