Implementation of Green Technologies in Transport Infrastructure with the Help of GIS Solutions

In recent years, Ukraine has seen a steady growth in sales of “eco-cars,” which is a factor in the development of electric transport infrastructure, in particular a network of charging stations throughout the country. To facilitate the search for charging stations, owners of such cars choose cartographic applications developed using GIS solutions. The authors of the article note that the growing popularity of electric vehicles is due to the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and achieve climate neutrality, which has become an important part of global initiatives such as the European Green Deal (Novakovska et al. in Ecology and mobility: transportation strategy as a key to sustainable urban development. Road transport, as the main source of atmospheric pollution, has a huge impact on environmental damage. In addition, gasoline-powered cars produce up to 75% of all emissions of harmful substances, while diesel cars produce about 4%. Taking into account these indicators, as indicated by the researchers, Ukraine has developed a National Transport Strategy until 2030, which ensures a decrease in the gap from traditional fuels, the gradual introduction of environmentally friendly technologies and support for alternative energy sources. One of the main tasks until 2030 is a gradual transition to electric vehicles and a 70% reduction in CO₂ emissions, which is part of the strategy to achieve climate neutrality by 2060. The article highlights the main advantages of electric cars, including: significantly lower emissions of pollutants compared to traditional cars, high energy efficiency of electric motors, reduced maintenance costs and increased safety of the design. However, for the effective implementation of electric vehicles, according to the authors, it is necessary to develop the infrastructure of charging stations. Today, this network is still underdeveloped, in particular on roads of state and regional importance, which significantly limits the convenience of using electric cars. Data analysis for the Kyiv region showed that the most common routes are already equipped with charging stations, so we propose the construction of additional “smart” electric filling stations in other directions of the region to ensure comfortable conditions for owners of “eco-cars”. By providing high-quality infrastructure for eco-filling stations and parking, we can increase the number of users of eco-cars and, according to the European Green Deal, reduce CO₂ emissions by approximately 55% by 2023.
