From Ledgers to Algorithms: The Rise of Cutting-Edge Technologies in Accounting
摘要
Purpose The study delves into Oman’s perspective on the four most impactful emerging technologies (Bid data and analytics, Cloud computing, Blockchain and XBRL) in accounting. Through comprehensive data collection and analysis, it uncovers the extent of knowledge professionals have in using these technologies and evaluates their impact on the accounting profession. Design/Methodology-This research has used the most familiar model, technology-organization-environment (TOE) framework. Data was collected using survey techniques from accountants, assistant finance managers and finance managers. This survey examines the influence of well-known factors on a company’s strategy to advance through adopting innovative technologies. Findings-Technology factors—Perceived Benefits and Ease of Use, Organization factors—Digital Proficiency of Workforce and Leadership Engagement and Environment factors—Assistance from Technology Providers and Market Competition. All the factors are found to have positive influence on the elements of TOE framework, but when compared with perceived impact on a company’s strategy to advance through adopting innovative technologies, both technology and environment showed a positive impact whereas Organization resulted in a negative impact. Research limitations-The result of the study is aligned with previous research and provides results from Oman’s perspective. The data collected from the respondents are their personal views and does not represent the organization or accounting profession. Moving into a technology-based accounting system might not be an easier decision for the management to consider cost and training support in adapting to a system. Theoretical Implication-This study refines the TOE framework by highlighting Ease of Use and Perceived Benefits as crucial for technology adoption. The mixed impact of Organizational factors suggests that rigidity may hinder perceived benefits, while Environmental factors like Market Competition confirm external pressures. Originality/value-The study provides insights on the company’s strategy to advance through adopting innovative technologies.
