This paper explores how the twin challenges of measurement and exchange of impact are enhanced and addressed in an environment with incremental policy drivers, in addition to the sustainability concerns, that are rooted in culture and faith unique to a given society. It accepts the possibility of a certain degree of (mis)alignment between culturally-determined societal goals and the sustainable development goals and develops a composite framework that admits all concerns, thus enhancing the probability of goal fulfilment. In the context of OIC member countries with Islam as the dominant faith, the goals of Shariah assume no less significance than the SDGs. The paper undertakes a mapping exercise between the SDGs and Al-Ghazali’s Maqasid Al-Shariah (goals of the Shariah) to develop the composite framework. The paper presents the case studies of Islamic Value Analytics (IVA) and Confluence, two innovative platforms using blockchain and AI technologies to measure and exchange impact.
