The clash at GiengenGiengen an der Brenz in mid-October 1546 did not decide the outcome of the war. Disagreements arose both within the leadership of the Schmalkaldic League and within the papal-imperial coalition. In addition to considering the possibilities for further war financing (which both sides had to address), the opening of a second front far to the northeast on the Bohemian-SaxonyBohemia border introduced an entirely new dynamic into the course of this conflict.
