摘要
We can see from the various moral principles set out by ethicists and international codes of medical ethics that the message is clear: Do not enable, condone, participate in, or otherwise support torture or the degrading treatment of others. This includes solitary confinement if in excess of fifteen days. Standing in the wings while others commit abusive practices is also morally repulsive and nothing any conscientious doctor, nurse, or other healthcare professional should take part in. Medical personnel may be coerced to provide legitimacy for torture in a prison, detention facility, or out in the field. Rejecting that is in everyone’s best interest.
