Electrolyte imbalances are prevalent and dangerous complications in heart failure (HF) patients, arising from both the physiological changes of HF and the side effects of medications like diuretics and RAAS inhibitors. Key imbalances include hyponatremia, hypokalemia, hyperkalemia, and hypomagnesemia, each contributing to increased arrhythmia risk and mortality. Effective management of these electrolyte imbalances is crucial for optimizing patient outcomes in HF. Understanding their underlying mechanisms and early detection are essential for appropriate intervention. Future research should focus on developing targeted strategies and guidelines for managing electrolyte imbalances in HF to improve prognosis and reduce mortality.
