Predicting Soil Health in Organic Farming Using Machine Learning: A Study on Farmers Perception in India

Agriculture is the backbone of the Indian Economy, as more than 55% is engaged in farming. However, there have been efficiency issues as the sector’s contribution to the country’s national income is the least. There has been a shift from conventional farming to organic farming, and advanced technologies are being used to improve the quality and productivity of the produce further. Machine learning techniques are being used to measure soil health, improving the productivity and efficiency of farming. The current paper is focused on measuring the awareness and willingness to use Machine learning techniques among the selected organic farmers in Karnataka. One hundred organic farmers were selected using snowballing, and the survey was conducted using a structured questionnaire. The responses are analysed using descriptive statistical techniques, and the results emphasize the willingness of most organic farmers to adopt advanced technologies. However, lack of funding and government support is one of the significant challenges in implementing the technologies. The farmers underscore the importance of integrating machine learning into organic farming systems to promote sustainable agricultural practices and improve farm efficiency.
