A Study of Islamic Management: The Effect of ‘5 Pillars of Islam’ Practice on Majlis Perbandaran Kuala Kangsar (MPKK Staffs)
摘要
This study explores the application of Islamic management practices in organizations by focusing on the execution, application, and assurance of adherence to the ‘5 Pillars of Islam’ as derived from the Qur’an and Sunnah, which are believed to be divinely ordained by Allah SWT. The primary aim of Islamic management and business practices is to promote justice, sustainability, and the welfare of all humanity, rather than individual gain, in accordance with Shariah principles. The study aims to provide an in-depth examination and insight into the management practices employed within organizations from an Islamic perspective across three main areas: (1) the effect on leader roles, (2) the effect on leader behavior, and (3) the effect on organizational culture in Islamic management practices. This paper is intended to examine the key aspects of leader roles and behavior and how organizational culture in conventional organizations adapts to Islamic management practices. A qualitative analysis was conducted, involving in-depth interviews with a group of Muslim managers from the Majlis Perbandaran Kuala Kangsar (MPKK), Malaysia. The primary method for data collection included in-depth interviews, supplemented by secondary data from previous literature, business articles, and relevant internet resources. This approach helps researchers specifically identify the impact of leaders’ adherence to the ‘5 Pillars of Islam’ within organizations that have adopted or implemented Islamic management as their standard policy. The findings show that a significant number of the interviewed managers were knowledgeable about Islamic management. Several managers demonstrated a comprehensive understanding of the topic, relating the management process to the Qur’an and the foundational principles of the ‘5 Pillars of Islam’ while sharing their insights.
