A Bibliometric Analysis of Corporate Governance Mechanisms: Trends, Influences, and Emerging Themes
摘要
Corporate governance mechanisms are the system, rules and procedures that govern the operation of a company. The main goal is to ensure accountability, fairness, and transparency in dealing with stakeholders. These mechanisms are designed to guarantee that management acts according to the best interest of the shareholder such as the measure taken from outside the company like Laws or Audits and from inside the company such as structure of the board. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to conduct a bibliometric analysis of corporate governance mechanisms to determine trends, leading works, and recent research patterns in corporate governance mechanisms. Based on the Scopus database as primary data source, 353 publications from 1996 to 2024 were retrieved. A Key finding is the rapid rise of the literature reviewing corporate governance mechanisms. Malaysia, Indonesia and the United Kingdom are the top countries of origin as they are more active in the discussion and publication of corporate governance mechanisms. Firstly, the three most frequently cited articles are those focused on ‘Corporate Governance’, ‘Corporate Governance Mechanism’ and ‘Ownership Structure’, evidencing that academic discussions and commenting regimes on governance practices are strongly influenced by the underlying structure of the debate in academia. This bibliometrics analysis shows the 1996–2024 research growth, with Malaysia, Indonesia, and the United Kingdom as the main contributors in countries, whereas the most examined themes in terms of citations were corporate governance, governance mechanisms, and ownership structure.
