Vernacular Innovation in the Architecture of Al Ain (UAE)
摘要
This paper examines key features related to the vernacular nature of heritage architecture by assuming it functions as an accelerator for local culture. Different sites of the city of Al Ain in the emirate of Abu Dhabi are taken in a comparative exercise. Key objectives consist of gathering selected observations on case studies, and then reaching an inductive effect, taking into account architectural variety as a fundamental premise. Results indicate that vernacular heritage components constitute markers for the successful commodification of the local cultural industry. The paper concludes with a reference to bespoke solutions for built heritage.
