Magnesium Composites Containing Hybrid Reinforcements

This chapter provides a detailed review of magnesium-based metal matrix composites (MMCs) enhanced with hybrid reinforcements, focusing on diverse reinforcement strategies, including fibers, particulates, and nanoscale additions. It examines their effects on key properties such as strength, stiffness, thermal stability, and creep resistance. Key studies explore the influence of reinforcement combinations, fabrication techniques (e.g., squeeze casting, powder metallurgy, friction stir processing), and microstructural factors on the overall performance of these composites. Challenges such as reduced ductility and corrosion resistance are also addressed, alongside innovative solutions like hierarchical reinforcements and in-situ synthesis.
