This chapter offers a brief introduction to exosomes. Exosomes are extracellular vesicles, 30–150 nm in diameter, enclosed by a lipid membrane, that are secreted by cells. They contain mRNA, miRNA, non-coding RNA, DNA, lipids, and proteins and provide intercellular communication, maintain cellular homeostasis, and remove cellular debris.
