This chapter explores the potential impact of quality assurance measures on empowering English as a Foreign Language Lecturers (EFLLs), positioning them as key agents of English Medium Instruction (EMI) success in Algerian Higher Education. Although EMI has been swiftly adopted, there is a significant gap in understanding how quality assurance frameworks can effectively support EFL teachers during this endeavour. Adopting a qualitative secondary research methodology, we have synthesised existing literature, policy documents and case studies from various educational contexts to tackle three critical research questions: (1) How can quality assurance measures enhance EFL teachers’ agency in contributing to EMI reform? (2) What successful examples from other contexts can inform quality assurance measures in Algerian EMI Higher Education? and (3) What are the implications for policy and practice in enhancing EFL teachers’ agency and contributing to successful reform? The findings indicate that current policies often overlook the critical role of EFLLs in the reform process, highlighting the need for targeted professional development, collaborative practices, and shared decision-making. Considering three successful EMI quality frameworks from international contexts. We advocate for an inclusive EMI quality assurance framework tailored to the unique challenges of the Algerian landscape, aiming to bridge the support gap for EFL educators and enhance educational outcomes through sustainable EMI reforms.

摘要
