Platelets are being increasingly recognised as key players in the pathogenesis of inflammation and in our immune response against invading pathogens. Although the majority of our knowledge regarding the anti-infective role of platelets stems from how they interact with bacterial pathogens, we are starting to gain a wider understanding of how they also interact with protozoal pathogens.
