This chapter deals with desitting measures which are adopted for a hydro project. Sediment management is of importance for small hydro projects of run-of-river type especially in Himalayas where rivers bring lots of sediment during monsoon. In storage-based projects reservoir acts as settling basin and intake is kept much above spillway crest. So, in such projects generally no desilting measures are required. In canal-based project canal design takes care of sediment problem. Hence this chapter describes different types of desilting measures which are provided in a run-of-river type project both in the upstream and downstream of the intake. These measures are either ejector/excluder or desilting basins or vortex basins. These are illustrated with examples.
