This chapter defines the scope of the design part of the book. A large number of civil structures are required in a run-of-river project as compared to other types of SHP projects. The design part of the book deals with the design details of the structures required in a run-of-river type SHP. In this chapter the functional requirements of all these structures are briefly given.
