Agile software development methodologies present the software development community with flexible options and increased visibility of an evolving software system. Agile methodology contrasts with more traditional, and less flexible, waterfall approaches. However, global data indicates that the migration to an agile approach is often hampered by the organizational culture. In this paper, a qualitative methodology that leverages the Competing Values Framework (CVF) is used to identify the best organisational fit for the adoption of agile software development methodologies. The results suggest that the transition to an agile methodology is easiest in organisations that demonstrate a developmental culture. There is however a marginal level of compatibility between the rational and group culture orientations and agile methodology. The study also found that hierarchical organisations do not support agile methodologies.

摘要
