Climate change and energy are highly pertinent topics for universities worldwide. This study examines how universities listed in the UI GreenMetric Ranking perform in these critical areas. Using a quantitative research method, the study analyzes secondary data on energy, climate change, infrastructure, waste, water, transportation, education/research, gross domestic product, Human development index, and environmental performance index. Data were sourced from the UI GreenMetric Ranking database, employing descriptive and confirmatory analysis techniques, alongside correlation and regression analyses via SPSS software. The investigation encompassed universities across all six continents included in the ranking, focusing on data from 2022. From a pool of 1050, universities with the highest indicators per continent were selected for a detailed examination. The study underscores the crucial role of universities in addressing climate change and energy issues and highlights the interconnectedness of these areas with other factors, advocating for sustainable and integrated management practices. The findings reveal the varied approaches universities, particularly in Asia, are adopting to confront environmental challenges. This study provides valuable insights into best practices and sustainable strategies for higher education institutions, emphasizing the necessity of integrated efforts to address global issues.
