Considering their position, universities are strategically conducive environments for implementing sustainable development practices, especially in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The role of higher education in fulfilling the 2030 Agenda encompasses several practical contexts and extends beyond institutional governance. This paper proposes an analysis of scientific productions related to SDG implementation in universities based on a systematic review of works published within the last five years. SDG 4, named Quality Education, received more emphasis due to its relevance in involving different social actors in its achievement, including civil society, the private sector, and the State. By investigating the progress of research on sustainable development in universities, this paper is useful in pointing out gaps, patterns, and needs of greater specificity in the approach to the subject. Moreover, it highlights the indispensable contribution of universities in the dissemination of knowledge and the success of fulfilling the 2030 Agenda. His final chapter explores some of the means which may be deployed to pursue and implement sustainable development across disciplines.
