This chapter introduces the book’s objective: to build bridges between science and practice and to offer a future-oriented perspective for coaching based on science. The aim is to make coaching more effective in practice by using current intervention methods that have been scientifically and practically proven. The starting point is a critical reflection on traditional principles and rules in coaching. These were quickly established in the early days of coaching to distinguish it from consulting activities or teaching clients. The book outlines a posttraditional form of coaching in which these principles and rules are not completely abolished but updated and reformulated on a scientific basis. Instead of prohibitions, this allows more opportunities to be exploited in coaching. The chapter concludes with an overview of the themes and structure of the book.
