Intersectoral Public Policies for Children's Well-Being: Insights from Morro Da Kibon Favela in the ABC Region

This study investigates the daily experiences of children in the Morro da Kibon favela, Santo André, SP, during the post-pandemic period. The research aimed to understand how precarious socioeconomic conditions affect children's cognitive, emotional, and social development. Data were collected using a mixed-methods approach, including the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) for caregivers and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale for children, supplemented by semi-structured interviews. The analysis, conducted using NVIVO software, revealed significant impacts of housing precarity, food insecurity, and inadequate educational and healthcare infrastructure on children's well-being. Findings highlight the critical role of family and community support in promoting child autonomy and well-being. The study proposes comprehensive public policies that integrate health, education, social support, cultural activities, and services for children with disabilities. These policies aim to create a supportive and nurturing environment that addresses the unique needs of children in favelas and fosters resilience and healthy development. Recommendations for future research and interventions are also discussed, emphasizing the need for longitudinal studies and targeted policy measures to improve the living conditions and developmental outcomes of children in vulnerable communities.
