Enhancing Entrepreneurial Processes Through Artificial Intelligence: A Triangulating Study of Ecosystems in Norway and South Africa

This paper investigates the influence of generative AI (GenAI) on the flow of knowledge as an entrepreneurial resource within two distinct ecosystems in Norway and South Africa. By employing a mixed-method approach that includes interviews and workshops, the study captures the perceptions of startup founders regarding the usefulness and adoption of GenAI tools. The findings reveal that GenAI significantly accelerates knowledge creation, enhancing entrepreneurial productivity and facilitating resource utilization. Participants noted that GenAI tools enable faster iterations in innovation processes, such as exploration and digital prototyping, while also helping entrepreneurs overcome resource constraints. The research highlights the importance of ecosystem dynamics such as the entrepreneurs’ playfulness, capability awareness, and self-efficacy, in shaping the adoption and effective use of AI technologies. These factors contribute to accelerating the entrepreneurial processes and to a more productive entrepreneurial environment, where knowledge spillover effects enhance overall performance. The study underscores the broader applicability of GenAI across two diverse economic contexts, suggesting that its integration can lead to improved entrepreneurial outcomes in ecosystems. Ultimately, this paper contributes valuable insights into the role of AI in fostering knowledge flow and innovation within entrepreneurial ecosystems.
