Food Literacy and the Global South
摘要
This chapter highlights the intricate socio-cultural nuances that inform the role and understanding of food in formal educational systems and structures within the context of the Global South. It successfully identifies and presents five distinct factors informing food literacy that are highly relevant for the context of the Global South, where, in spite of differences, there are certain commonalities of experiences around food issues. The chapter attempts to engage with the predicament of food in the domain of formal education, mostly in terms of policy, to address the paucity in existing frameworks of reference that aid in understanding the nature and status of food literacy within non-Global North regions.
