The digital age is transforming industries across all sectors, including bridge engineering. Advanced digital technologies enable automation, improving data reliability, repeatability, cost-efficiency, and accessibility. Many European bridges, built in the 1950s and 1960s, are now reaching the end of their design life, necessitating optimal maintenance strategies to ensure performance while minimizing life-cycle costs. However, the bridge value chain still relies on outdated and inefficient methods, such as visual inspections. Digital transformation, driven by disruptive technologies – including distributed sensors, drones, crowdsensing, digital twins, and machine learning – can provide vast amounts of real-time data to enhance decision-making in bridge integrity management. This paper explores the benefits and challenges of digitalization in this field, with a particular focus on innovative large-scale vibration data collection and efficient data processing methods to generate actionable insights for decision-making at both bridge and portfolio levels.

摘要
