Criminal Groups in Mexico

This chapter analyzes the case of Mexico. It begins by examining the evolution of the Sinaloa cartel. It highlights the infighting among the cartel and formation of different factions like Los Chapitos. The chapter then examines the Cartel Jalisco New Generation (CJNG), and how this group has evolved over time into one of the most powerful players in the criminal underworld. The chapter also looks at other criminal organizations like the Arrellano Feliz Organization as well as the Knights Templar. The AFO is a shell of the organization is used to be, while many experts note that the last leader of the Knights Templar was captured in 2017.
