Indigenous communities worldwide exhibit high rates of suicide. Based on a literature review, this chapter addresses the cultural aspects of suicide in Indigenous communities, aiming to provide culturally sensitive guidance for the development and implementation of suicide prevention programs. The chapter delves into conceptions of death and suicide within Indigenous communities in Latin America and the Caribbean, exploring their perspectives on the factors related to suicide for both individuals and communities. Furthermore, it maps suicide prevention policies specifically targeting Indigenous populations in Latin America and the Caribbean while offering guidelines for developing culturally sensitive and locally relevant policies and intervention programs. The chapter concludes that incorporating elements aligned with the worldview and culture of each Indigenous group enhances the effectiveness of suicide prevention and postvention efforts.
