Suicide is the third leading cause of death among individuals aged 15–29, with many more young people attempting suicide or experiencing suicidal thoughts. While the long-term effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on youth suicide risk are not fully understood, early data suggest an increase in cases. This underscores the need for prevention, early detection, and timely management of suicide risk. However, many young people face barriers to accessing mental health care, creating a treatment gap. Even when treatment is available, managing suicide risk is complex and requires careful assessment and planning. The chapter is divided into four sections: first, it discusses risk and protective factors for youth suicide, considering social determinants of health; second, it provides tools for screening and assessing suicide risk; third, it highlights interventions across clinical, community, and digital settings; and lastly, it explores barriers to help-seeking behaviors.

摘要
