Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic, autoimmune, and inflammatory systemic disease that mainly involves diarthrodial joints, with cartilage degradation, bone erosion, and progressive loss of articular function. The cross-talk between central nervous, endocrine, and immune networks is named neuroendocrine immune (NEI) system and is highly perturbated in course of RA and other immune-mediated diseases. The restoration of normal functionality of NEI system, by following physiological circadian and circannual rhythms, is crucial for the optimal treatment of this complex disease.
