This chapter explores the synergy of appropriately modified carbon coatings and self-assembled monolayers (SAMs), with a focus on their general characteristics and the fundamental conditions for successful modification, leading to well-adherent SAM layers on Si-DLC and Ti-DLC coatings. The analysis of Me-DLC-SAMs compositions has revealed their potential to mitigate friction, adhesion and wear. Finally, the proposed applications of the obtained Me-DLC-SAMs nanocomposite coatings are presented.

摘要

This chapter explores the synergy of appropriately modified carbon coatings and self-assembled monolayers (SAMs), with a focus on their general characteristics and the fundamental conditions for successful modification, leading to well-adherent SAM layers on Si-DLC and Ti-DLC coatings. The analysis of Me-DLC-SAMs compositions has revealed their potential to mitigate friction, adhesion and wear. Finally, the proposed applications of the obtained Me-DLC-SAMs nanocomposite coatings are presented.
