West Africa has emerged as a regional leader in implementing the Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) agenda. This chapter evaluates the translation of the United Nation’s (UN) YPS resolutions and the African Union’s Continental Framework (CFYPS) into actionable policies, examining both catalysts for progress and persistent barriers. It highlights the pivotal role of youth-led organisations, regional bodies, and international partners in driving advocacy while critiquing gaps in political commitment and technical capacity. The analysis underscores how contextual factors—including demographic pressures and security crises—have accelerated YPS institutionalisation, yet identifies challenges such as fragmented coordination, funding instability, and the exclusion of young people from decision-making spaces. By mapping stakeholder contributions at continental, regional, and national levels, it offers actionable recommendations to consolidate West Africa’s YPS gains and addresses systemic obstacles to youth participation in peacebuilding.
