Overview of Humanisation Concepts
摘要
This chapter will explore humanisation concepts and situate the book within the broader literature on humanising healthcare. It will consider how concepts such as person-centred, and relationship-based care have been adopted within traditional healthcare systems and are central to midwifery practice. The chapter also provides an overview of established dimensions for humanising healthcare and a discussion of the relevance to humanising maternity care. Importantly, this chapter proposes a humanising birth framework and introduces seven domains for humanising birth. These domains provide a framework for optimising physiology and human flourishing. This framework has been shaped by years of working in, and thinking about, humanising childbirth, and underpins the transdisciplinary Humanising Birth Research Network (HBRN), established in 2023. This framework, and the articulated domains offer a way to think about humanising birth, and a foundation to frame future research and practice.
