Future Digital Work Era: Well-Being, Technostress and Turnover Intention
摘要
This empirical chapter investigates the impact of new ways of working (NWW), enabled by technology, on employee turnover, focusing on the Asian workforce. The objective is to understand how technological advancements in work practices reshape present and future work environments and influence employee dynamics. Emphasising future-oriented implications, the chapter considers the Vietnamese workforce as a representative context within the region, anticipating how these dynamics may unfold in Asia’s evolving digital economies. By analysing past findings from other Asian countries, this study not only reflects on current realities but also provides future-looking insights into workforce transformation. Employing structural equation modelling for analysis, the chapter uses a comprehensive dataset of Vietnamese employees from various cities. This approach facilitates exploring the complex relationships between NWW, employee well-being, technostress, and turnover intention. The findings reveal the dual nature of the NWW, demonstrating its capacity to both elevate technostress and enhance employee well-being. Distinctively diverging from earlier research, it reveals that NWW is insignificant regarding employee turnover intention. The mechanism of action appears rooted in the escalation of technostress, yet it remains unaffected by its implications on employee well-being. This exploration contributes a nuanced understanding of NWW’s complex effects within Vietnam’s unique socio-economic landscape and the broader future of work in Asia.
