Ammonium-containing ameliorants based on vermiculite and serpentine mineral lizardite are proposed for reclamation of mining waste located near the cities of Kovdor and Olenegorsk in the subarctic (Murmansk region, Russia). We showed that the degree of ammonium mobility depends on the type of fertilizer used (ammonium sulphate and phosphate) and the mineral composition of the ameliorant carrier. Nitrogen fixation occurs both due to ammonium sorption by vermiculite and lizardite and because of the formation of poorly soluble mineral struvite. We studied phytotoxic properties of mineral mixtures based on technogenic materials (quartz and vermiculite-lizardite mining waste) with the addition of ammonium ameliorants. In this study we propose creating prolonged-release fertilizers based on layered silicates for the reclamation of mineral waste.
