Green ICT’s Emerging Trends Toward Sustainability in Mitigation and Adaptation to Climate Change in Great Rift Valley

Climate change is a critical global issue, driven by rising greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from human activities such as fossil fuel consumption, deforestation, and industrial processes. The consequences are extreme weather, rising sea levels, and biodiversity loss which threatened ecosystem and human societies. The concept of green ICT or green computing plays a key role in both mitigation (reducing GHG emission) and adapting (building people’s resilience to climate change effects). Through the implementation of green computing, organizations become more sustainable by reducing energy consumption, minimizing electronic waste, and optimizing resource utilization. Therefore, it is important for individuals, businesses, and governments to promote and invest in green computing practices and technologies to ensure a sustainable future. This paper assesses green ICT emerging trends, with specific focus on circular economy initiatives, green development plans, and the implementation of green ICT trends in selected countries to enable them to monitor, mitigate, and adapt to climate changes within the Great Rift Valley countries. This study is achieved through a paper review in green ICT and circular economy areas. The future of green computing focuses on reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions, increasing the use of renewable energy sources, and promoting the circular economy. As technology continues to evolve, the findings will be of great importance in guiding the design and operations of technology in a way that minimizes its environmental impact while combating climate change.
