Last Rites and Violent Outcomes
摘要
Final rites are a significant part of the human experience and a subject that many of us do not want to think about. Nevertheless, it is a stage of life that touches all of us regardless of our situation in life. Cultural traditions, as a result, help shape how we view this final stage of life. The ceremonies attached to death, not surprisingly, are significant in our lives and when they go well, it helps us cope with the sadness accompanying this goodbye. However, when final rites ceremonies go wrong, as in the case of gun violence at those solemn moments, it has tremendous ramifications that can last a lifetime. When it is not possible to have an open-casket viewing because of the damage bullets caused the human body, it interferes with the healing process. When violence occurs during a solemn ceremony, it undermines this journey, with short- and long-term consequences.
