Introduction to the Journey
摘要
The subject of gun violence is a major public health problem in the United States and it seems to permeate all aspects of our society. However, it takes on greater significance in this country’s major cities, as highlighted in this book. This violence, however, has spread to sectors that have historically not witnessed violence, such as houses of worship, funeral homes, and cemeteries, or what is referred to as the death sector. Gun violence’s venture into this sector has caught society by surprise, including the health provider sector and law enforcement, challenging us to rethink of how best to address it. This introductory chapter will ground readers on the parameters of this new arena for gun violence and the need for innovative interventions that bridge the current gap in interventions. These initiatives will bring their share of rewards and challenges.
