Application of Multilayer Reinforced Concrete Structures for Containers for Safe Storage and Transport of Radioactive Waste

In accordance with the provisions of the Energy Strategy of Ukraine until 2035, safe radioactive waste management is one of the most important factors for the sustainable development of the country’s nuclear energy sector. Therefore, improvement of radioactive waste management systems at nuclear power plants is an urgent need and aims to ensure processing, transportation and storage of radioactive waste to a state that meets the criteria for acceptance or acceptability of their disposal in centralized storage facilities. The proposed in the paper constructive solution of using multilayer reinforced concrete structures allows to reduce the cost of manufacturing universal reinforced concrete containers for transportation and burial of low- and medium-level radioactive waste in near-surface storage facilities. The paper analyses the existing theoretical approaches to determining the forces in the contact seam between concrete of different classes and considers the results of own experimental studies of five types of bi-concrete reinforced structures that can be used for resource-saving containers for safe storage and transportation of radioactive waste. The studied beams were tested according to the calculation scheme of the bottom of a reinforced concrete container intended for the transportation of four barrels KRO-200 with salt float.
