Application of Technological Simulation Techniques for Enhancing the Efficiency of Oil Heating Unit

The article discusses a method for modernization an oil heating unit using natural or associated petroleum gas using process modeling tools including software chemical engineering process modeling Aspen HYSYS V14 and software heat exchange equipment calculation and selection Aspen Exchanger Design and Rating V14 (Aspen EDR). Currently, oil which is used as a high-boiling coolant is heated in a furnace using the heat generated during combustion of fuel gas. The essence of the unit upgrade is to redirect the oil flow through a shell-and-tube heat exchanger which is proposed to be heated by a gas flow in order to reduce fuel gas consumption and perform final heating in the furnace. During the work in Aspen HYSYS V14, a furnace model was built before and after the upgrade in order to determine the required heat load and a detailed calculation and selection of the required shell-and-tube heat exchanger was performed in Aspen EDR.
