Maps of the Shortest Paths to the Kufa Mosque Using Network Analysis in Geographic Information Systems

A geographical study cannot be complete and achieving its objectives without relying on maps. Hence, this study came as an attempt to prepare a set of specialized maps that are concerned with representing the shortest paths leading to the Kufa Mosque using network analysis in geographic information systems. This technique has been employed in monitoring the road network in the Kufa city, whereby a spatial and descriptive data base for these roads was created, as well as the most important geographical phenomena related to the subject of study. In line with the aim of the study, a set of maps were prepared for various appropriate cartographic representation methods, as determined by the nature of the represented data and the goal of designing the map, the most important of which are maps (Kinds of roads, Road junctions map, Kufa Mosque, residential areas, Maps of the shortest paths to the Kufa Mosque, and a map specific to the time of arrival and the other by the distance of arrival), the study found the possibility of benefiting from network analysis in geographical information systems to measure accessibility to the Grand Mosque in the city, whose results can be adopted as a general indicator of the city.
