Practitioners working in forensic mental health typically face a myriad of clinical, ethical, and conceptual challenges that traditional approaches are not well equipped to help them navigate. The GLM, when augmented for use with forensic populations, provides a strength-based practice framework that can guide practitioners in all aspects of forensic rehabilitation. A case vignette demonstrates how the GLM can assist practitioners to integrate well-being, psychiatric, and risk management perspectives into a cohesive rehabilitation plan centered on what is most important to the individual. It highlights how attention to an individual’s values, aspirations, and strengths, alongside their problems, can bolster their sense of agency and enhance their engagement in treatment and motivation to change.
