It has long been established that the first months following a period of incarceration and long-term inpatient settings. Individuals can see dramatic shifts in their support networks, sense of practical identity, primary human goods and the available means for pursuing them, and motivations for change. This chapter offers considerations for using the GLM under these conditions, using case vignettes to illustrate key points. Specific attention is given to emerging adults—those individuals who have spent most of their adolescence in residential care and emerge from them as young adults.
