The Good Lives Model (GLM) informs all stages of rehabilitation; however, offending treatment programs that purport to use the GLM often omit or minimally implement the GLM into preprogram clinical assessments. Even in programs advocating a GLM approach, assessment practices tend to focus on identification of dynamic risk factors/criminogenic needs. This chapter will describe and illustrate how to implement the GLM in pretreatment clinical assessments alongside RNR considerations. We detail (1) pertinent GLM considerations within clinical assessment, including identification of primary human goods and obstacles, (2) how information needed to score risk assessment tools can be collected within the GLM practice framework, and (3) how assessment information is integrated and used to inform a GLM-derived intervention plan. We then illustrate a GLM-grounded assessment framework with a case example.
